Shane Dorian's 2008 JC Quiver

SHANE DORIAN'S $50,000 TOW BOARD

JC HQ, April 15, 2008----- JC Hawaii's own Shane Dorian took out the Billabong XXL "Ride of the Year" Award lining his pockets with a cool $50,000. Not bad for one scary wave. And the wave was scary. And had his JC slingshot not been properly weighed, he might've ate it and paid a hefty price. But the board held the line allowing Shane to ride out his wobbles and into surfing history. "I was out of control the whole time!" Shane admitted regarding his off-balance attack on a ledging Teahupoo monster.

About the board.... "That "Slingshot" was 5'7"," JC says, "and it had 5 layers of 6 oz on the deck and 4 layers on the bottom with about 5 lbs of lead strategically embedded in the blank. I designed it for Ian Walsh and was a copy of Dorian's Magic 'Slingshot' that was ridden by Shane and got him two covers in one month (Surfing and Surfer) at Teahupoo a few years ago. Shane and Ian share their boards nicely, even though Ian is a bit bigger. I guess this is the new "magic" one."

MEL SCORES CENTER-SPREAD IN NEW SURFING MAG

And JC better get on making him some new boards right away... cause this is sort of the unspoken (or yelled about) rule.... team riders get the photos, shapers shape the boards.

"BONES" MEETS WORLD (qualifying series, that is)

Nineteen year old Brighton "Bones" Brandenburger finally went to town (literally the next town over) in the two-star Vans Pier Classic in HB making it through six heats before losing to Ratboy and Sunny Garcia in the round just before the quarters. Still, it's Bones best result ever and he can't stop raving about how magical his new JCs are....

SEAN MOODY EYES 2009

Hawaiian prodigy and all around ripper Sean Moody will set his sights on qualifying for the 2009 WCT. It's only a matter of time before Sean puts two and two together (two small waves JC's and two big wave JCs) and makes the cut.... and when it happens, you'll remember hearing about it here and there.

SKIP SNEAD HIRED AS JC'S GLOBAL MARKETING ENGINEER

It's been in the works for some time, but it's now official: Skip Snead will be representing JC Hawaii on a much higher level than simply riding the surfboards... and his first goal is to find and market the next Shane Dorian....he's actually scouring phonebooks calling every Dorian he can find.... so far no luck but he did have a good conversation with a friendly Cheyenne Dorian out of western Montana... Truth is, we're talking to a few surfers and a deal with a top-tenner is in the works...
